![]() ![]() ![]() We wanted to weave our own stories which were inspired by the whole cannon of The Famous Five books. ![]() Rather than taking the individual stories and making straight adaptations of the books, we looked at the books as a jumping off point. Our approach to The Famous Five books was not to simply adapt the novels but to look at the entire series of the books and take inspiration from the source material. I brought Nicolas Winding Refn on board because, having worked with him before, I knew he always wanted to be the sixth member of The Famous Five. When we first formed Moonage Pictures we sat down and decided that we really wanted to make TV that was both inspirational and that we could watch with our children. Two more episodes of The Famous Five will follow in 2024.Įxecutive Producer for Moonage Pictures who wrote the screenplay for episode one and created the TV series with Nicolas Winding Refn. BBC Studios, who have a minority stake in Moonage, will oversee international distribution.Įpisode one is on CBBC and BBC iPlayer from 5.25pm on Saturday 9 December and will also air on BBC One between Christmas and New Year. Asim Abbasi (Churails, Cake, Count Abdulla) and Bill Eagles (Beautiful Creatures, Gotham, Pennyworth) will direct the following episodes. The first episode is directed by Tim Kirkby (Fleabag, The Pentaverate) and produced by Moonage Pictures and byNWR Originals. For ZDF, Frank Seyberth, Head of International Coproduction, is responsible for the series together with Katharina Kremling as Commissioning Editor. The Famous Five was commissioned by Sarah Muller, Senior Head of BBC Children’s Commissioning 7+ and the Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Amy Buscombe. BBC Studios are distributing the series internationally. The Famous Five (3x 90’) is a BBC commission in co-production with German ZDF and in association with The Mediapro Studio for Spain, Portugal and Latin America. ![]()
